Journey to Eden: Symphonic Movement for Wind Ensemble
Alto Sax 1/2
Horn 1/2 (div)
Duration: 10-12 min.
Journey to Eden is written using the structure of Sonata Rondo form. It has two main melodies, each with very different characteristics that are eventually overlapped and varied throughout the development and coda sections. The original work was written as my final composition project as an undergraduate. It features many of the less common wind band instruments, but is cued in other voices. The tempo of the first theme is flexible, but needs to have drive to keep the dance-like feel. The slower theme can be pushed and pulled as desired.

In My Memory was originally started in 2011 and finished in 2012. The piece was written in memory of my grandmother that had died in early 2011. I had always been told she would sing and play music with me as a young child before she moved away.
This version of the piece was finished in 2018 after the passing of my grandfather. When he was younger, he played the saxophone, and this work features a brief saxophone solo. The work also features solo woodwind instruments, representing the influence and experiences I've had as a woodwind doubler and oboist. All of the double reed parts are cued in various voices. I have been lucky to have many different musical influences and supporters in my life, and moments of this piece encompass that.
Available with either Piano, Chamber Winds, or Orchestra accompaniment. Other instrumentation may be available by request.
The work may be performed with either a chime player, or tone bells played by the choir.
Grade 4 (Chamber Version)
Duration: 5 min
Judgement Day features two texts, the Gregorian chant Dies Irae, and the hymn Judgment Day. The latter appears in a different mode to the original until the very end of the work. For the most part the music used when the Dies Irae text occurs is original music, but the chant melody itself is used heavily throughout. The opening is a Capella outside the occasional note given by the chime part.
Two Lorca Poems for Choir and Solo Flugelhorn
Featuring two poems in Spanish by Federico García Lorca
I. La Luna Asoma (The Looming Moon)
II. El Balcón (The Balcony) - 4 minutes in on the midi recording
Duration: 6 1/2 min
The open eeriness of the fifths sets the mood for the first movement La Luna asoma. The loneliness calls to the text of the poem "the heart feels as an island within infinity". The ornamentation and the melodies are supposed to give as sense of weeping and unsteadiness.
The second movement occurs quickly after the first - a drastic change of pace and heavily accented and rhythmic. El Balcón starts with the text "Si muero, dejad el balcón abierto/If I die, leave the balcony open!". This movement cycles through a variety of key centers until we get to the final push to the end where Lorca repeats the text from the opening of the poem.
